About Us

The name Filomusi is taken from the Greek words filo- + musa (muse), and means 'love to the muses' or 'love of the beautiful arts'.

This is the basis and inspiration for Filomusi Productions' work with modern dance. This artform is based on expressing feelings and sensations through a nuanced use of the human body.

The dance company Filomusi Productions is an association directed by Danish dancer and choreographer Julie Brøgger, who has a background in the dance scene in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and New York.

Filomusi Productions has performed in a wide range of places such as Aarhus Cathedral, Aros Aarhus art museum, Musikhuset Aarhus, The Lobby at Dansehallerne, Cph. With the performance 'NABO' filomusi productions visited private homes where livingrooms made the scenography.

Filomusi Production also offer workshops in repertoire, improvisation, gyrokinesis and modern dance for int/adv. As well as they offer workshops for schools, day-care centers and companies.

MISSION STATEMENT
We will create larger knowledge on and interest in modern dance with a broader group of people by performing in unconventional places and cooperate with other artists as well as use our voice in community relevant projects locally, nationally and internationally.

We will push general perceptions and prejudices of the individual spectator, thus creating basis for reflection both on the modern dance as an art form as well as on socially relevant and existential themes.

We will be present for our audience by discussing ideas about the modern dance and single performances when we meet with them.

We will explore the potentials of various artists and projects, and thereby create a synergy effect that reaches far beyond individual abilities. The inspiration comes from the artistic scene in New York, where groups across genres, nationality and borders uses each others' qualities and experiences.

We will work with each dancer's individuality, mind and physical abilities which will become visible both in the process and the final performance. The capabilities and limitations of the body will be explored during the process and therefore it will be at least as important and interesting as the target.

We will inspire others to create through our work with the modern dance.

How to connect the art scenes...

We, who are a part of Filomusi Productions, wish to expand the art scene of Aarhus and connect despite of genres? And as we might have some ideas it is commonly known that 2 brains think better than one, so we are always keen to hear about ideas that can help us connect. If you're out there and have an idea as to how music, theater, videography, dance, art and poetry can become one, write us and we will take it in to consideration on our next board meeting.

Thank You
